nightmare is now over. the second bombing suspect, dzhokhar tsarnaev is in the hospital. he was captured after a two hour standoff. he was found hiding in a boat in a backyard. a few minutes we will go live to the hospital where the 19- year-old is being treated under heavy police security. there is also new information about his where abouts right after the bombing. also a live report on how the bay area will show support to the bombing victims. first let's go to claudine with a run down of the events. >> reporter: we want to take you through the event that led to the capture of the 19-year- old dzhokhar tsarnaev. we got a first look at the teen who had been called suspect two at first. these are the areas that we are talking about. these are the first two pictures we got about 5:20 on thursday night. fbi released the images and video. suspect one was in the black hat, that was the older brother tamerlan tsarnaev. about five hours later we got reports of shots in cambridge. now let's talk about that. university police officer sean collier was shot at cambridge. this is the area. he late
. >> as you mentioned, justice department officials told cnn dzhokhar tsarnaev is facing federal terrorism charges and state murder charges. preliminary hearing could happen in the next 30 days. a lot hinges on when the suspect is well enough to speak. investigators are eager for him to talk so they can find out who planned the attack. tsarnaev will likely be appointed a federal public defender. for now, the justice department is invoking something known as a public safety exception. this rule is used to question terrorism suspects without reading them miranda rights. the rule was created to question terrorists about other potential threats. senator carl leven says so far there's no connection between the suspect and terrorist groups. leven said to hold him under these circumstances would be contrary to our laws and jeopardize our effort to prosecute him. during interviews before suspects are read their rights is often not admissible during the trial. the issue on miranda rights is further complicated because the u.s. is a u.s. citizen. many of the rules cannot be used on americans. live
